Temple Run 2

Temple Run 2 is a sequel to the original Temple Run, a popular endless runner game. Players control an explorer running through a dangerous environment to escape a giant demon monkey. Players collect coins and power-ups while dodging obstacles. The run ends if the explorer fall or get caught, so quick reactions and good hand-eye coordination really matter.

Characters

When you first start the game, you’ll play with the default character named “Guy Dangerous”. He has balanced speed and agility, making him perfect for the beginners. There is also a female option for players called Scarlett Fox, made in 2022 to support gender equality. Although they don’t have any special abilities initially, they’re still good choices for beginners.

Character Special Abilities

Every character in Temple Run 2 has a special ability that can provide an advantage during a run. These abilities can be triggered automatically or under certain conditions. Including:

  • Coin magnet extensions to grab more coins
  • Boosts to escape tricky obstacles faster
  • Shields to temporarily protect you from obstacles

Power-Ups Explained

Power-ups appear randomly on the path and offer players a short burst of advantages during a run. They can be upgraded with coins in the store to last longer. However, all power-ups will not appear in the game until they’re upgraded to at least level 1, with a maximum upgrade level of Level 5.

Coin Magnet: It attracts nearby coins automatically

Shield: It protects you from one obstacle hit but not from falling.

Boost: It launches you forward a certain distance, and the character is controlled by the game automatically during the boost.

Mega coins: It gives extra coins after a run. The award amount depends on the upgrade level.

Coin Values: It increases the coin values after you run a certain distance. Higher-value coins, such as red (double) and blue (triple) coins, appear as you upgrade this power-up. This is the only power-up that activates automatically rather than being collected during a run.

High-Score Strategy

1. Survival First

The most important goal is to survive as long as possible. Although collecting coins and gems is very attractive, coins are often set near traps. For example, collecting coins on the right lane when there’s only half a path ahead can be risky, focusing too much on coins may get you killed within minutes.

2. Master Control

Learn to jump or slide while turning at the same time. Once the game speeds up, traps love to show up on turns, so watch out and time it right.

3. Stay in the Middle Lane

Staying in the middle lane gives you more reaction time for upcoming obstacles, especially as the game speeds up. Keep an eye on obstacles ahead and get ready to react. Tilt to the side only when safe to collect coins or avoid hazards.

4. Use Boosts Strategically

After playing the game a few times, you’ll start to notice the tricky sections where you tend to crash like narrow tunnels or shaky bridges. Using Boost in these areas can help you get past them safely. At other times, activate Boost on long straight paths for maximum distance and coins.

Be careful: When Boost is about to end, your character will start flashing. If this happens near an obstacle, the Boost effect may disappear before you pass it, so make sure you pay attention to control the character in time.

How to Earn Coins Faster

1. Upgrade Power-Ups First

Coin Magnet and Coin Value are essential power-ups for collecting coins. When activated during a run, Coin Magnet pulls nearby coins toward you, while Coin Value increases how much each coin is worth. Upgrading these power-ups early lets you earn more in the long run. The farther you run, the more often these power-ups activate, helping you collect red and blue coins and get higher rewards from the same run.

2. Time Your Boosts

Use a boost at the start or in the early stages to skip the slow section to reach high coin density faster. While the Boost is active, always go for the paths with the most coins as you don’t have to worry about obstacles. Once the Boost runs out, play it safe. It’s totally fine to miss a coin line if it means surviving longer. One missed line is way better than ending the run early.

3. Save Your Gems

Gems can be used to revive and continue your run, allowing you to earn more coins. While this can be an attractive option, try not to spend your gems in early stages unless you’re close to completing an objective or hitting a personal best. Using gems for upgrades can provide long-term benefits.

Join Events for Extra Rewards

Temple Run 2 regularly features special events and challenges, and participating in them is one of the easiest ways to earn extra coins and gems. Compared to normal runs, these events are usually more efficient since they offer guaranteed mission rewards and bonus prizes. Don’t miss these events. You can always do normal runs later, but event rewards won’t always be around.

Common Mistakes Beginners Make

1. Over-upgrading the wrong things

Over-upgrading the wrong things can be one of the most common mistakes beginners make in Temple Run 2. New players are unfamiliar with the game setting and tend to upgrade whatever looks fun like characters outfits. Or upgrades power-ups that are less efficient. This may lead to later upgrades being more expensive and difficult to get, slowing down overall progress.

2. Panic Reacting

As beginners, it’s easy to only react when obstacles are right in front of you. But the game gradually speeds up, so a swipe that works at 200 m might fail at 2000 m. Try to anticipate what’s coming instead of just reacting, looking ahead makes a big difference.

3. Going After Everything

As we mentioned before, traps often appear with turns. On top of that, power-ups and treasure chests can pop up near obstacles. Beginners who focus too much on collecting may crash early, while missing them too often can be frustrating. The key is to balance collecting rewards with staying safe.

Games Like Temple Run 2

If you like the fast, intense vibe of Temple Run 2, there are plenty of other fun games you can check out. Subway Surfers and Sonic Dash are classic endless runners, easy to start, but move at a rapid pace. Minion Rush and Lara Croft: Relic Run mix things up with fun characters and mission systems, so the gameplay doesn’t feel repetitive. No matter what style you’re into, there’s probably a runner game you’ll enjoy.

And if these games ever start to feel a bit overwhelming, it might just be your reaction time or hand-eye coordination falling behind. Free Brain Training can actually be a fun way to practice those skills and get better over time.
